Hour meter comparison

Vibration hour meter vs. wired hour meter.

Both meter types record operating time, but they determine the operating state differently. A wired meter reads an ignition or electrical signal, while a vibration hour meter detects physical machine activity at its mounting point.

Self-powered and no machine wiring. Xhour does not transmit data wirelessly.

When a vibration hour meter fits

A vibration-activated meter is useful when opening or modifying the machine electrical system is undesirable, when equipment types vary, or when a simple retrofit is important. Xhour uses its own battery and can be mounted using adhesive or screws.

  • No ignition or external-power connection
  • Simpler retrofit across mixed equipment
  • Mounting point must transfer consistent vibration
02

When a wired hour meter fits

A wired meter can provide a direct electrical indication of ignition or another chosen signal. It may be preferred in a new machine design where electrical integration is already planned and the signal precisely represents the operating state to be recorded.

  • Direct relationship to the selected electrical signal
  • Suitable for planned OEM electrical integration
  • Requires wiring, power, and installation access
03

Choose based on the operating state

The best meter is the one that accurately represents the activity you need to measure. Test vibration-based installations across the full work cycle, and define wired activation signals carefully so idle, standby, and auxiliary operation are handled as intended.

For model-specific or OEM information, contact the Xhour team directly.

Is a vibration hour meter wireless?+

Xhour needs no machine wiring, but it does not transmit information wirelessly. The operating-hour total is shown on its digital display.

Which type is easier to retrofit?+

A self-powered vibration hour meter generally avoids opening the electrical system, which can simplify retrofit work when a suitable vibration-active mounting point is available.

Do both types measure operating hours?+

Yes. The main difference is how they decide the machine is operating: physical vibration versus an electrical signal.
